So guess who took their exams recently and forgot to give any warning about their lack of posts???

Good guess.

Anyway, back to it then.

About a month ago Leanan and I went to Birmingham for a little day trip that included seeing a certain show (points if you guessed it from the title) and it was amazing!

We got the train down in the afternoon and went for a little wander around The Bullring. Naturally I was drawn to The Disney Store like the true child I am, although a little part of me wanted to floor to open up and swallow me when they woman at the till said "Is this for you then?" She already knew the answer...

After our little venture we went to my fave place to eat in Birmingham. If you've never been the The Handmade Burger Company then I suggest you book a table at your closest one right now because BOY is their food good! I also somehow managed to get scared and nearly jumped out of my skin when the waitress came over to take our order. Don't know what is wrong with me.

Now for the (not so) big reveal...

The evening arrived and it was soon time to walk down to the Birmingham Hippodrome where we spent it watching The Addams Family. Now I had never seen a music before and I felt honored for my first to not only have been spent with Lee, but also for my first to include the wonderful Scott Paige and the fabulous Carrie Hope Fletcher. If you aren't familiar with these two then please do watch the video below. Trust me, it's worth it and guaranteed to make you laugh.

I had heard a few things about the show from other people who had seen it and everything I had heard was good. It also didn't do the show and the cast justice because HOLY COW these people are incredible!

Before I get carried away, let me tell you a bit about the show and the cast. If you've never heard of The Addams Family, they are a kooky family created in the 1930s. Morticia and Gomez have two children, Pugsley and Wednesday, who all live in their family mansion with Grandma, Uncle Fester and Lurch. This musical focuses on what happens when Wednesday gets older and falls in love, to the despair of the rest of the family. It is a comedy and the jokes and lines in the show work very well, and were well received by the audience.

Moving on to the cast, Morticia Addams is played by Samantha Womack, who is most recognised from her work on Eastenders as Ronnie Mitchell. I think some people weren't too sure on her playing Morticia but after seeing her performance I definitely think she did the character justice. She had a lovely voice, both speaking and singing, and she can tango!

Cameron Blakely played Gomez Addams. He had a couple of quite big songs in the show and performed them very well. He was the most comedic character in the show and again, he made everyone laugh multiple times. I think his Spanish accent was wonderful as well. It was almost strange to hear him talk in his regular voice.

Of course I have to mention Carrie too, who played Wednesday Addams. Aside from performing in many shows, she can be found on YouTube (ItsWayPastMyBedTime) and in most book stores in various countries. She also has her next book out next week, but that makes for another blog post.

You may have seen in a previous post a video of Carrie singing Pulled from her channel. She has one powerful voice in her! She honestly blew me away with her songs, especially when she sings Crazier Than You with Oliver Ormson who plays Lucas Beineke.

There is quite a small cast to The Addams Family, but the ensemble are incredible. Each person plays a different Addams ancestor, ranging from a Tudor queen to a Roman emperor. All 10 of them are brilliant. So much work is put into the costumes, the make up, the choreography and all of it is shown during the show. No one ever breaks character and you get so lost in the show and the story.

The show is still touring at the moment if you want to go and see it. I will leave a link below to all the details. I highly recommend you see it as it is just amazing. There is also a video above of one of Carrie's Watch Me Wednesdays from Birmingham you might enjoy. It shows some of the antics that occur backstage during show days.

I hope you enjoyed this post and I will hopefully be uploading regularly now that I have lots of time on my hands because I am officially DONE WITH COLLEGE!!!

If you read these regularly then thank you very much. I enjoy writing them and it makes me quite happy to see that other people seem to enjoy reading them too.

And don't forget to smile! x
