ROLLER COASTER WEEK

Last week was such a roller coaster. It started off incredibly but as the week went on I felt it getting worse and myself feeling lower. However it ended on a fairly high note though so I thought a post about it would be perfect right about now. I am coming up to a stressful part of the year with revision for exams looming so this post acts as a reminder to focus on the good stuff and the wonderful people I have around me to help me through.

When I got to work, we had finally received our practice's Petplan Veterinary Awards 2019 nomination certificates in the post. We have been waiting for these for so long and I am so proud that so many of the team got nominated. I know that at least a couple of the nominations came from some wonderful friends but even so, I am so proud to have been nominated regardless of this. I have only been in practice just over a year so it's really nice to have been noticed and appreciated.

The day then started off with another wonderful experience. A gorgeous labrador mum came in as she was having trouble giving birth to her litter of pups. Our wonderful vet Katie examined her and helped her deliver pup number 1 as she was breached (leg facing the wrong way). After the first pup was born, Tiff and myself helped to deliver the rest of the pups throughout the day. It was the first ever puppy birth I had seen and I was fortunate enough to get hands on and involved very quickly. The staff I work with are so supportive and always help with my training, enabling me to become the best nurse I can. For that I am forever grateful. I was also glad that it was a pretty normal and easy birth. Unfortunately the majority of births I will see won't be as nice. Monday's outcome included some very relieved owners, an exhausted but healthy mum and 10 stunningly beautiful future guide dog puppies. Oh, and a very happy SVN!

After that high start to the week, for various reasons I started to feel lower by Friday. I wasn't really myself and I was pretty stressed thinking about these things and their outcomes. I then received a message at the same time I was feeling awful. It was from a friend and it made me tear up as it was just what I needed to hear in that moment. I was feeling low and disposable but she reminded me that I was appreciated by the right people. It reminded me that I had the people that matter backing me all the way and they would always be there to pick me up when I needed it. Thank you.

I then spent the weekend celebrating Jacob's birthday early as he was away on Sunday. We went to Nando's and Creams and we had a lovely time. We also spent lots of time in bed watching Netflix which is always my favourite way to relax and enjoy our downtime together. It's always the simple things we enjoy the most.

On Sunday my mum came down to visit me and to see the lambs at our uni event. The weather was wonderful and we had a lovely morning together. We got to see one of the mums give birth with some help and also got to hold one too just before we left. We then went and got some lunch from the King's Head which had recently been renovated. The food was lovely and the pub is dog friendly so hopefully we can take Bailey one day. I'm glad I got to spend some time with mum and use it as a way to celebrate her birthday and mother's day with her as I wasn't home.

For now it's back to working on my assignment and rolling along until exams but I feel much happier after some time well spent with the right people. I just need to keep working hard and I will get there.

And don't forget to smile! x
