CAMPING

Last week Ellen, Craig and I went camping in South Wales. Somehow in the 18 years that I have been on this planet, I have managed to get away with never going camping before. Surely camping is just one of the many things that all 90s kids did as part of their childhood, like asking the neighbours if they are coming out to play or spending the summer catching frogs. How have I only just been camping for the first time?!

Day 1: We set off on Monday quite early after packing up the car (and I mean packed, we nearly lost Craig in the back seat!) After about an hour and a half we stopped to grab some food which was probably best as we only had gummy sweets, chocolate-covered cookies and M&Ms for breakfast on the road. Oops.
It took about another hour to reach the campsite. For anyone interested we stayed in a place called South Cockett Caravan and Campsite in Haverfordwest. It is a family run site owned by some very lovely people. They were very polite, helpful and the facilities were nice and clean.
We pitched up before any rain could strike and make it a lot harder for us and then refueled on even more chocolate in the shape of chocolate spread sandwiches. Yummy!
After 'lunch' we took a drive to Little Haven. This was a cute little area filled with colourful houses lining the streets and many dogs running around on the small stoney beach there. I would show you some pictures from there but me being me, I have gone and lost the memory car. *Cue sarcastic claps of disappointment*
We also went a little further up the coast to Broad Haven, another lost location, where we trekked to the top of the hill there and got some wonderful photographs of the view. If i ever find the card I will edit this post and put some in, it was beautiful.

Day 2: We ventured to a place Called St David's on Tuesday. This had a beautiful cathedral at the heart of the city. We explored the area and found a little cafe to eat lunch at called The Sound Bar. We basically just spent the morning exploring and taking photos.
After lunch, we went for what we thought was a short stroll. Turns out it was actually a 3 mile trek through sheep fields and narrow country roads. Still, we had fun playing explorers.
Once we got back we ate some well deserved hot dogs and then played with an abandoned frisbee for a couple of hours. We are easily pleased! It was like being a kid again, playing outside until late or until you were called in for dinner. This was what all the 90s kids did back in the day in a time before technology advanced and just became fancy babysitters for children like now. Craig also made friends with one of the other campers who had 2 giant St Bernard dogs with them. It's safe to say we made 2 very cuddly friends that night in the shape of Aslan and Nala.
Day 3: Waking up Wednesday morning wasn't too hard as throughout the night, we had been struck by a lovely little bit of wind and rain. We were surprised that the tent hadn't collapsed considering the battering it had taken.
Despite the rain, we went to St Bride's that morning. It soon cleared up which was no surprise. If you think the weather in England is strange, you should try South Wales. One minute it's pouring it down and the next it's like 30 degrees, sun for the rest of the day. Crazy!
Wednesday was pretty chilled as a whole except for a fair few wasps entering our tent and trying to steal some of our leftover cola cans and lollipops. (We lived very healthy lives in that tent) We even make some sort of Shmore traybake. If anyone is desperate for that recipe then let me know, I will try and recreate it in another disaster chef blog post.
Day 4: Home time! We spent the morning having a lovely lie in and then packed up and ready to leave only an hour and a half after waking up. I thought that was pretty impressive!
Being a photographer, (or trying to be) naturally I took my camera with me everywhere we went on this trip. Craig also seemed intrigued by this and took a few photos whilst we were away. I wanted to share them because some of them are really good and I can't take credit for them, as tempting as it is.
Below are some of my favourites, including Craig's attempt at manual focus vs my attempt.

I hope you enjoy this post. I am sorry I have been away yet again and it's not that I forgot to post, I just wasn't organised enough to have a post ready before I went away.
To anyone who reads my post regularly, or just on the odd occasion, THANK YOU SO MUCH! It always makes me smile when my phone alerts me of a new reader on the site, so please stick around and subscribe.
And don't forget to smile! x
