REVISION TIPS

I have been very busy this week with college work and revision and have missed a weekly blog post. This isn't an ideal start to 2017...
In honour of the humongous pile of college work I still have to do before my scarily close exams in June, I thought I would share some tips for revision with you (but mainly for myself too). Some of these will have been taken from the wonderful Louise Pentland who has a weekly email about her new novel she is currently writing that I thought were good tips for both writing and revising. I know different people revise and learn in different ways to others, but these are what helps me and if you want to share your tips too then feel free to comment below.
1. Give yourself plans/goals- This is a very simple but effective tip. Whether you are trying to fit assignments into deadlines, scheduling revision over the week or trying to start a new method to revise from, it’s important to be clear on what you are trying to achieve.
2. Track your progress- Use a calendar, a to-do list or a whiteboard to track your progression through a subject or topic. It is always nicer to see how far you have come rather than how far you still have left to go.
3. Give yourself rewards- When you’ve reached a particular goal, make sure you reward yourself with a treat. That could be a snack break, a hot bubble bath or a comfy evening watching your favorite films. Whatever it is, it’s important to celebrate your hard work and give yourself some praise. (Remember you are the most important person in your life!)
4. Make it look pretty- I find using coloured pens and diagrams can really help information stick in my head. If it look appealing it won't feel like such a task to sit down and do so much work. Just look at these!

5. Don't do too much- You have to take time away from working and revising. Too much isn't healthy for you and you will wear yourself out. Take breaks every hour if you are working all day. If you revises in the evenings after college or work then take at least one evening out of your week to relax. If you don't you will run out of down time and will just be working 24/7 which isn't nice for anyone.
To anyone else taking exams this year, doing a lot at work or, like Louise, writing a book, I hope that these tips help you to keep at it and not to find it such a chore.
And don't forget to smile! x
